Insultherm® FGN - Silicone Coated Fiberglass Insulating Sleeve
Insultherm® FGN: High-Performance Thermal…
Why does Insultherm® FGN outperform "bare" fiberglass sleeves?
- True Fluid Tightness: Where a traditional braid "soaks up" oils and solvents (increasing fire risks), the FGN’s silicone coating repels them. Your cables stay dry, even in the event of a hydraulic leak.
- Safety and Hygiene during Assembly: Direct contact with fiberglass is often a nightmare for operators. By encapsulating the fiber, FGN eliminates skin and respiratory irritation on your production lines.
- Outdoor Survival: Ozone and UV have no effect on this material. Its lifespan under direct exposure far exceeds that of thermoplastic sleeves (tripling the ROI for offshore installations).
- Flawless Fire Behavior: Self-extinguishing and halogen-free, it generates no opaque or corrosive smoke. It is a vital insurance policy for your critical equipment.
Expert's Point: Managing "Dew Point" and Condensation
An often-overlooked aspect of thermal insulation is internal moisture buildup. Thanks to its extruded monoblock structure, Insultherm® FGN limits the sudden thermal transfers that cause condensation inside the sleeve. This is a crucial detail for the longevity of sensitive connectors in high-humidity environments.
Where to deploy Insultherm® FGN protection?
Its exceptional flexibility, even in extreme cold or intense heat, makes it the preferred tool for dense wiring architectures.
- Energy & Nuclear Sector: Protection of flow sensors and instrumentation on gas turbines.
- Automotive & Racing: Shielding ignition harnesses and hoses near turbochargers (extreme under-hood temperatures).
- Foundry and Glass Industry: A shield against molten metal splashes and radiant heat from annealing lehrs.
- Marine & Propulsion: Securing power lines in engine rooms, where vibration and salt degrade classic insulators.
- Professional Kitchens: Wiring for high-power oven heating elements and sterilization tunnels.
Certifications and Technical Specifications
Choosing Insultherm® FGN through Eurosleeving means aligning with the world's strictest safety requirements:
- Fire Safety: UL 1441 approved (available in grades A, B, or C depending on the required operating voltage).
- Environmental Compliance: Guaranteed SVHC-free (REACH), RoHS compliant, and Halogen-Free.
- Thermal Range: Optimal operation from -70°C to +220°C. Withstands thermal peaks up to 260°C.
- Mechanical Flexibility: Optimized minimum bend radius without material whitening (maintaining both aesthetics and airtightness).

FAQ about Insultherm® FGN
Does the sleeve fray when cut with standard tools? No. This is one of the major advantages of the "Full Coating" process: the silicone binds the glass fibers together. You can cut the sleeve with industrial scissors or a blade without fear of the braid falling apart.
Is Insultherm® FGN compatible with prolonged immersion in hydrocarbons? While the silicone coating is extremely hydrophobic and resistant to oil and fuel splashes, it is not designed for permanent total immersion in aggressive solvents. Contact us to explore our fluoropolymer solutions for such needs.
Does the silicone coating make the sleeve difficult to install in sinuous areas? On the contrary. Despite its thickness, the silicone used has an optimized friction coefficient that facilitates cable sliding. Its structure remains flexible enough to follow tight bend radii without creating kinks or seal breaches.
Why is it a strategic choice for my employees' health? Bare fiberglass releases highly irritating microscopic dust. By choosing FGN, you eliminate this risk: the fiber is 100% encapsulated, ensuring a clean and safe workstation.
